The English translation of the musical was a total flop, but for some reason this song caught on. Or at least, that's the story I've heard.

Actually, as well informed as you seem to be, the musical was originally written in English and was a terrible flop. The Germans, however, knew a great thing when they heard it and welcomed the German translation, Tanz der Vampire, as the cult classic it was born to be. Thank you for sharing this "unique" interpretation.
